Grounding Exercises
5-4-3-2-1 Sensory Grounding Exercise
Use this exercise when you feel overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or stuck in your thoughts.

1. Pause and take one slow breath.
2. Look around and name 5 things you can see.
3. Notice 4 things you can feel.
4. Listen for 3 things you can hear.
5. Notice 2 things you can smell.
6. Name 1 thing you can taste or one thing you are grateful for.
7. Take another slow breath and remind yourself:
“I am here. I am safe in this moment.”
